Local Resident

National Chaplin

For Association

A Hillsboro resident attended the Association of Baptists for Scouting meeting held  recently at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.

Sam Houston is the national chaplain for the Association.

At the meeting, several initiatives were arrived at to encourage Baptist churches to use scouting more effectively to reach youth and their families for Christ.

Leadership of the association also wants to increase the number of Baptist Scouting units in the United States and to increase the number of Good Shepherd awards given out each year to adults who work with youth.

Houston said that anyone interested in having a scouting unit in their church may contact him at 254-582-9884.

The Association was founded in 1954 and exists to bring youth to Christ through a scouting ministry.
